Hey, Just wanted to say much respect for all the brilliant apps/progs over the years. First saw Geiss about 12 years ago being used as a screensaver in a computer shop in Hereford UK. I noticed it was reacting to a mic plugged in an had never seen anything quite like it (and quite so cool) as a 14yr old boy interested in computers. I asked the member of staff behind the counter about it (who was an american) and he said he had loaded it on and had it on a floppy out back, he went and made me a copy for free! Ryan, Milk drop is crazy amazing! I love it! I been watching it for years. You are seariously talented. I drive a Yaris and it gets 44 mpg overall. Its tires are at nearly 50 psi. if people would just keep their tires cranked up hard they would cut their fuel consumption by 20%. Seomthing that most people don't know is that the average tire can handle 50% over its max pressure rating. Hard tires have little friction and increase fuel mileage greatly. I just wanted to drop a note in here to say that I've been a big fan of yours since the days of your Geiss viz on Winamp. Milkdrop 2 is even better. But the sense of awe and wonder I got the first few times I ran Geiss still can't be matched by any other viz out there. It blew my mind away just as much as things were progressing out of mp2s into mp3s, at the time. I graduated BS Computer Science back in 2000 as well but from a way different college. Many cameras have built-in orientation sensors, and set those values in the image EXIF data. I see you have the option for lossless rotation, but I would think that is largely unnecessary, if you pull the EXIF data. Like everyone else, I love milkdrop. Whenever I get the latest winamp it has new milkdrop routines, but I miss some of the old collections from the past. Can you tell me, (as the author) is there any way of getting the old stuff. I understand since the pseudo-randomness of it comes from combining the routines in various ways so there may be a limit to how many routines could be in memory at once,but maybe not. You would know, I don't. All I know is it would be great to at least be able to load in old collections. I'll bet it would be a snap for you to do. Hi Ryan, I just happened to stop by your site for the first time in a while and downloaded the latest version of Geiss: the screensaver, and I love the new HD resolutions and multiple monitor support! I have an HDTV connected to my computer, and it's really cool being able to run Geiss on the big screen. I've been a big fan of Geiss for quite a while now... I copy it onto every PC I use. Actually, the site says it was released in 1998, but I could have sworn it was more like 1995-6 that I first ran across it, but memories fade. Anyway, it is easily my favorite add-on of all time. I'm writing to report an apparent bug with 4.28, and to toss in a few questions as well. First, when I set "Frames between map changes" to 1000, it doesn't get saved. If I click OK and go back to Advanced Options it's still set, but if I click OK twice and start over at Settings... the slider is back to the middle. And it definitely doesn't seem to be set to 1000 when it runs. I've always thought this setting should go up at least another order of magnitude anyway, so having it un-adjustable is kind of a bummer. I have some questions about the features. Earlier versions had q/s/e/u/g/d/a. This one says q/e/u/g/d/a/y. First of all, what happened to s? I love s. S rules! It's totally my favorite, along with q. (My standard favorite map is 24 with s, 2 q's, and maybe an a, d, or u thrown in). The odd thing is, sometimes it still shows up with a new map, but the s key doesn't do anything. Second, the a and y keys don't work either. I like a sometimes. I've never heard of y. Still don't know what it looks like. Third, there should really be a way to set the number of q's, and to have more than 2. (I know you can set 0,1,2 in the ini file--at least I used to, haven't tried in a while). Maybe successive q-presses could cycle through 1-2-3-4-0 or something. Probably a pain in the butt and no one else cares. Fourth, there should really be an option to prevent "blank screen mode" (I probably should have sent this in ten years ago). I almost never use Geiss with music, I just like it as a screensaver. But often, when it changes maps it just displays a blank screen because no features were turned on. It would be great to have a setting for minimum number of features. Maybe there could be a way to rate them, like the maps. Finally, as a vegetarian for over 30 years, I appreciate you providing info and taking a stand on this subject. Although I have two small request suggestion for the future development of the programme. Firstly, I wish Superslide can handle archive formats like zip and rar (or in the comic scene often renamed as cbz and cbr) on the fly without users having to manually extract the file and then delete the extracted file afterwards. Secondly, it would be nice if there is a slider function so navigation through the images can be done really quickly. | |

Hi Aah old days memories came back. Nice to see you active again lately. I've been composing tons of presets for MD2 - mostly shader stuff. To start off.....I was first astonished by Milkdrop- which for me was not only the just simply BEST music visualization program on the planet, but the reasons went beyond just the visuals themselves. It seemed to have some kind of hidden quality or "GLOW" about it that made it special, and caused me to see it as almost divine or something. I have always joked about it being "A Visualization after GOD's own heart!" as if you could find a verse in the Bible that actually said something like---- And GOD did LOOK down upon Milkdrop, and smiled...and HE said with a great voice of thunder.....saying that indeed...IT IS GOOD! ---and all who watcheth it shall be glad and blessings will be unto their imaginations! --(and there was much rejoicing! "yay yay!") But seriously I was for a time a bit fanatical over Milkdrop, to the point that some of my friends would tease me about it, suggestion once that I should make it my religion or something! But nowdays I feel I have come to know, what gave Milk its divine glow. Of course, it would be you! The man behind the curtains, or behind the show. It was you all along-- your light which I saw. Thanks for the visualisation of my moods ! For years the Geiss plugin was the most wondefull thing a computer could generate: playing my favorite songs (really loud) while looking at something which could keep up with my alcohol comsuption. Or even better: stay ahead of my drunkeness... And than came Geiss2. I alsways said I bought my PC's for the games. But the real benefit of upgrading: running Geiss in a higher resolution. And, only just now, I have found Milkdrop2. It is unbelievably pretty. I have to call in sick tomorrow (or in two hours, when I should start work), but I cannot help myself: "It is scaringly good" (sorry: I am Dutch: "Het is verschrikkelijk goed!"): I just have to see how "my music looks" ... Ryan, I have enjoyed your work since my first download of a WinAmp beta back in... was it 1996??? Wow! My wife and I have always enjoyed your Drempels program - it made her the envy of the accounting department at her office. Prior to Drempels I ran the Geiss screensaver for years... somehow it always looked slicker and smoother and more interesting than any other screensavers or visualization programs out there. I appreciate the personal and other information you've added to your site. It's very interesting and informative (Note the correct apostrophe usage). geoforms demo is great - except the audio detection does *not* work at all on my rig. i tested with virtually every player and configuration, only when the 'p' button is kept being pressed constantly, i sometimes see the jiggle-effect (seems like bug to me). | |

I don't know what's up with your guestbook but I wanted to say that I admire your work and have to send out my kudos especially for the vegetarianism / environmentalism thing. You mentioned Helical Flourescent edison-mount lighting, so I thought you might like these: http://www.besthongkong.com/ they're LED spot lights for track-style lighting. They aren't american made so I don't know if you'd go for that but they just started shipping the 120VAC models and they've had 12VDC MR16 type for a while now. However, I would recommend re-enforcing them with some super-glue, had a $14 light as bright as the sun break apart on me because it was held on there by about 4mm^2 of glue... keep up the good work :) | |

I thought I'd mention the Ford Escape Hybrid, which you failed to list on your webpage about hybrids. I found your information interesting, the main problem we have in the auto industry is that everyone thinks a better mousetrap is easy to build, but no one outside the industry has devised one yet (while they ridicule those that are a least trying.) I worked on the University of Michigan's Solar Car team back in the early 90's, and am committed to helping Ford find a better solution. We're currently working on getting more batteries from our supplier for the Escape, Mariner and Mazda Tribute Hybrids to increase production. thank you: I have drempels as my wallpaper since ever, i could go without it, but it thrills me every time i minimlize a windows. request for GPL status: i can understand thou have not the time to upgrade drempels to support some niffty new features (as those asked on the forum) and since you do not require payement for your work (*) GPL status of the source code would be a benefit to everyone, as far as i can see. The only way to see milkdrop on giant screen is by dragging the window from the monitor desktop. Unfortunately the FPS drops to 10-12 Can you help ? Milkdrop is very much appreciated Regards | |

Hey Ryan, I know this is probably not possible, as you are no longer an employee of Nullsoft/AOL, but there are many people who would love to see an update on Milkdrop. There are just a few bugs that are trying to stop the Milkdrop experience from being as fulfilling as it could be. Check out the winamp forums. Anyways, good work on all your plugins for winamp. By the way.....I only use aol because I get it unlimitedly for free through a friend who works for that evil empire...hehe. Ryen I wanted to say that I totally love the way you think and see life. I admire people who are like you, and that is pretty much how I am too, other than I dont know computers and programing at all like you do. But I can see that you have one bright mind and very clever when it comes to writing good software, and I admire the level of creativity when it comes to your work. That is a real gift of God you know. I believe it is people like you who can help change the world for the better. God knows we need that. Lets just hope (and pray) that we can vote that half brained, greedy little weasle of of guy out of office. by the way....all who read this might think I am crazy when i say I recently had a very powerful chain of spiritual experiences in my life. Just a quick note from Northern Ireland. (yeah we have computers here, albeit methane powered)Err also, not from ALL of northern ireland - that would just take ages. Just wondering that as we move into the next major phase (i think the new generation of cards is the biggest leap in a number of years) of gfx hardware do you plan to take advantage of this and code some more mindbending-rhythm-action geometry? As games slowly grind through every possible genre and war available and we draw ever closer to real REAL REAL photo realism i grow weary. Just wanted to say Thank You Ryan... I've been using your winamp plugins for years - it was the original geisswerks winamp plugin that sold me on the artistic value of music controlled visualizations. I've been on hiatus from winamp use for about two years because I've been using linux exclusively on my desktops. I was pleased to discover the MilkDrop plug in for winamp when I last toyed with windowsXP. I do believe that your skill in creating computer graphics programs/plugins is unmatched by any group of Free/Open Source Software developers. It would be wonderful to have some of your code licensed under the GPL or LGPL - if for no other reason than that some of us dying to know how it all works. I think I'd really enjoy learning about graphics programming by reading through your code (eh, maybe not, you could write uncommented chicken scratch). wow, i finally made my way back here after needing to install geiss on my new computer, never been to the real site before since i got the original from some 3d screensaver site. Man your work is increadible especally Dempel being able to run though black backgrounds so its like browsing the internet on acid. it makes you wonder about all the potental hidden in the little features of operating systems like xp. and what computers would be like if they where properly uterlised. as they say the future is here, it just hasn't spread around yet. and i admire you for being one to be bringing it on. | |

This is exactly what I stopped by to ask about - seeing if there were any way I could get my hands on source for any of the stuff here on Geisswerks. I'm just starting off in programming, and I would learn a lot from being able to sift through your source this summer (while classes are off). Dremples in particular - I have absolutely no idea how you pulled off anything that that does (integrating with the desktop/all other programs, loading/distorting/fading textures, all with so little CPU/memory load, how it occasionally confuses task manager into thinking it's a much higher CPU load, ect). Even if it's all sloppy, mostly-incomprehensible assembly code, it'd be fascinating, and a bloody amazing resource. | |

Your visualization Plugins are by far the best I have ever seen! I was just wondering if you have ever thought about programing stuff for the modded xbox. The scene is huge! Anyway there is this program that is open souce called Xbox Media Player "XBMP" or Xbox Media Center "XBMC" and they both have an audio visualization plugins but they are sooo bad. I dont think anyone knows what they are doing with them. I was talking to a bunch of guys on there and we would all love to see your plugins like milkdrop on there! Dear Mr. Geiss, I love your programming! But Monkey 1.02 troubles me... Somehow the programm can't switch off the wireframe-mode back to a high detailed texture. Everything changes to low quality, as well as the framerate drops. I searched faq and readme for this topic, but had no luck solving this problem. All I can do to prevent this, is to block randomized textures, but the only thing needed to be blocked would be the wireframe-view. | |

I'm very pleased by all the great stuff you created so far. I'm sure you have more then enough ideas to improve your plugins and savers but - to me - there is one thing missing - I would like to have a plugin /screensaver that simulates the good old oil projector effect from the 60s/70s... There�s a saver for mac called "fluid" but nothing simular for pc I guess you would be the right man for that Mr. Geiss (I guess it would only take a few minutes for you to do that)!!! :-))) | |

Interesting points on cattle/fish Ryan. I think in the UK there's less intensively farmed meat than there might be in the US. Certainly, I try and eat free range meat (and organic if I can afford it). Interestingly thought there's signs that this attitude might be catching on with fast food chains. For example, McDonalds now only use free range eggs in their Egg McMuffins and if you order a carton of milk it'll be labelled as organic and approved by the Soil Association. | |

Your visualization Plugins are by far the best I have ever seen! and I was just wondering if you have ever thought about programing stuff for the modded xbox. The scene is huge! anyway there is this program that is open souce called Xbox media player "XBMP" or Xbox media center "XBMC" and they both have an audio visualization plugins but they are sooo bad. I dont think anyone knows what they are doing with them. I was talking to a bunch of guys on there and we would all love to see your plugins like milkdrop on there! Love the Guesswerks! All you need to do is invent a stand alone system that would be plugged inline to a audio source and provide output of video to a tv. Then you could put this on the big screen with whatever you are playing on the stereo at the time.

I just wanted to say how much I love your various WinAmp plug-ins, and how much I love Milkdrop now that I have v1.04 (1.03 ran like a slideshow in desktop mode on my comp unless I turned everything WAAAYYYY down). Also, if you have Stardock's WinFX 2.x and Milkdrop 1.04 or Geiss 2 1.0 running in desktop mode, you can set windows on your desktop transparent (I recommend 60%) so you can see the whole of your visualizations while working in other windows THROUGH the windows! Here's a few solutions: 1. Try typing linein:// into the open location box (Ctrl-L). This will take input from your sound card microphone and Geiss will dance to it. 2. Use G-Force vis instead: it can run in stand-alone mode without winamp at all! Of course, it's not Geiss, but I reckon it's better in lots of ways. (but the Geiss variety is faster though!) 3. Thank you first of all for your incredible plug-ins and screen savers, they are by far the best I have ever come across. I just wanted to let you know about biodiesel in case you didn't already. It is a renewable energy source and is far more efficient than gasoline. Plus, any standard diesel engine can inexpensively be converted with a little time and effort. Dear Ryan, Thanks for all your Winamp vis plugs over the last few years, I have enjoyed them all, and the new Milkdrop is just unbelievable! Good luck with the new job. Your animal rights rant was very interesting, I am a lapsed vegetarian with many veggie and vegan friends, and am strongly considering a change in diet again (it will be difficult here in Japan though, as most people have never heard of vegetarianism, let alone veganism!). Hiya Ryan! Just wanted to drop a quick note to say "thanks" for making Milkdrop work for XP:) By far the BEST vis. in existence! Looks awesome on my new 21" flat screen.! Keep up the good work. A few days ago I was wishing my entrepreneurial plans (er... ok, dreams) were farther along than they are, just so I could offer you a job. I must have fallen asleep, beacause I didn't see that Geiss II was out until last week! At first, I thought it was cool, but not as huge an improvement as I was hoping for..... but it turns out that I was just smoking crack that day and needed to look again. GEISS II IS INCREDIBLE! Hello Ryan ! Sorry to be classical but I am also a great fan of your work for years ;) Some remarks about your plugins : 1 - What about adding an option to disable screensaver when in desktop mode ? 2 - I am using glass2k - an utility to make windows transparent - and it works well only with geiss II - milkdrop and monkey fall down to 2 fps :( (short setup - ati 9500 128mb+p4 1.8mhz+xp) 3 - Geiss II seems to use a kind of old pixel trick (checkers) to simulate transparency instead of using transparency, is it normal ? Ryan, First off your visuals make the world a better place! Sorry to hear that the AOL thing didn't work out, but nVidia is exactly where you need to be although ATI could really use the help more, because their drivers SUCK, they can't seem to get the 8x AGP figured out with XP. If you have the time please, please, please give Dremples DUEL MONITOR support, at least for the screensaver portion. You haven't touched it since 2001 and I keep checking back every month hoping someday a new version will be there to download. y0 ryan =) great work with md 1.04 there... as i understand most of the improvements came from the "scene"? its a pity to lose such a great plug-in coder. making the plugins open-source would prolly violate some licenses, eh? what a shame... sorry to hear you lost your job but i doubt you would end up in doing what you like at AOL anyway... so i wish you look finding a new employer or some other way to do for a living. Ever thought about founding your own company? =). Finally, after waiting a year, Milkdrop, the best thing to hit parties since beer, has been updated. The best things in life are usually free and you have helped prove that. hi there i just came over to the site because i once used geiss 1 and hoped to find something new when looking at the iTunes-visual-thing running beside me right now, which alas looks by far not as nice as your plugin does. it's a pitty that your plugin doesn't run on linux/xmms to which i switched quite some time ago for technical and philosophical reasons ;) ... but i'm thinking about switch back to windows with one of my comps in order to run your plugin. but anyway, i just read the comment "Unfortunate" and wanted to give some feedback that goes into the other direction: i'm a vegetarian myself since 6 years now and i agree very much what you do and how you think about things, philosophically and politically - at least as far as i can have a clue of american politics, since i'm swiss! mauro mauro at student dot ethz dot ch (feel free to drop a mesg anyone) PS: sorry for my poor english PPS: running the risk of punching anyone to the head (you guys wouldn't say it that way i guess but i hope you know what i'd like to express): geiss and cannabis/marihuana is a very good combination!! | |

man, you have taken the cake once again.. all hail the greatest animated eye candy creator on the net, a couple things on geiss 2 though, are you planning on incorporating the "rating" feature as in geiss, where you can set the rating of the certain vis to show more ofted or not at all. also i miss the vis where the soundwave move towards the upper rear of the screen, with the solar palettes that looks like a rolling river.. good job though.. keep up the awesome work. | |

Dood i have to say your the WHOLE reason i use Winamp. Milky and Geiss have to be the two most fav eye candy ever in my opinion. Ive been using Geiss since my first PC. milkdrop through my works projector is simply the best eye candy ive ever witnessed in my chilling room being run under a p4 2ghz wi 1gb o ram and a gf4ti4600 128mb. Dood seriously you should create your own media player/vizualiser and implement your own visual wizardy as i know I for one would pay for such a fantastc A/V eye candy package. How about a mp3 mixing app like winamp but mixing and eye candy display at same time utilising the dual output display. (ive just bought a pci gf4mx440 64mb ddr for that exact purchase)Oh and possibly a kettle built in too dood heheh ;) You are Da Man Ryan please if you leave winamp (which i would cos its AOLHell but thats up to you.) continue development of your eye candy even if it has to be mediaplayer 9 :S Im sure all the readers and members of www.milkdrop.co.uk will be saddened (i know i am by the news dood) Keep up your magic that you weave. There is no other eye candy in my opinion im a devotee and try to convert as many people as possible to use winamp/milkdrop. Have you ever considered the wider market for your products dood. Dude, I like your Winamp plugins. I drive diesel, accelerate gently, change gear at low revs and try not to brake hard or often which results in lower fuel consumption (=less tax to our government). Hi your vis. plugin/MilkDrop/is really cool and runs great on Celeron AT 400MhZ ;-), but I have a very strange problem with it underXP: under win98SE there are no problems everything is working properly, but under XP it is loading very slowly/it takes around 1-2 minites to load the core-the viz window./ it doesn't matters if it loads in fullscreen mode or in windows. And aroun 30-45 seconds to load the config window regards Hope you'll help me, I relly want to use your plugin it's just great for my machine. ;-) Keep developing it!! P.S. Every time you get arround to releasing a new plug-in or some update I am completely overwhelmed: your work is awesome! besides the fact that milkdrop rocks more than any of the other plugins, visualization or otherwise, it would be that much better if i could have all of my monitors running milkdrop all at once, possibly all with different resolutions, and diffferent things going on at all times, but all interacting as seamlessly as milkdrop does on one monitor! you just cant make something awesome without people screaming "MORE MORE!", can you? Every one of your visualizations is better than any other I have ever seen. You have increased euphoria in the lives of many people. One of my favorite pastimes has become Smoking a bowl and watching Milkdrop with my friend for unknown lengths of time. Stoned or sober it is the best visual ever! I hope to one day be able to program things half as well you do. Thanx for everything. The one improvement that could be made: installers should not force 'correct' install directory. I use winamp3 and had to install winamp2 just so I could install the plugins and then copy the files to the winamp3 directory. Well worth the effort though. | |

Hi there, love your plugins for winamp and I'm just wondering if you will ever be porting any these (or at least attempting) to unix? I can understand why you wouldn't want to release the source code as you probably spent many many hours writing the stuff. However if you did, people would still recognise you made it and no one else would take credit. Trust me :) XMMS is like a winamp clone almost, but alot nicer in the way of functionality and atm it seems we have no (what i would call) descent visual plugins. I am absolutely sure that many skilled coders would be willing to help you make the port to unix. Anyway, it's up to you in the end. | |

Hi there Mr. Geiss I downloaded today an screensaver to give it a try and then remember how cool was one I used to run some time ago (nearly and year). Of course it was Drempels. I think what is more amazing 'bout this state-of-the-art gadget is I can put it directly on desktop and work around with it running backwards. It's very cool! Like Mr. Hendershott says downwards, I think too you're a very good programmer and an artist. How much time until you take Monkey and Milkdrop to the desktop? I'll come here from time to time looking for them so I hope you get the time and will to convert them. By the way: I have a TOSHIBA Satellite 1750 notebook w/ 10gb HD, 196mb, Celeron 700mhz. I think you're an artist, and you sculpt color and light with code! Giess 2 is much more responsive to frequency changes and "beats". As I've indicated, I'm a fan. However, I when playing with Milkdrop, Dremples, Geiss, etc., I often find myself wishing the "experience" was more dynamic and dramatic... almost as if major shifts in the tone and pattern of a given piece of music invoked a major change in visuals... that is shifting from Milkdrop-type visualizations to Monkey-type based upon some major pattern shift. I'm *not* a programmer, and can be really naive as to what it actually takes... still, music is pattern and variation; it would be nice if the compter could detect consistencies in the occurance of various frequencies and certain intervals... and then when a pattern break is detected, a major switch in visuals occurs.. and a new pattern is then established/detected. The mind craves form and will unite elements (e.g. Pink FLoyd & the Wizard of Oz), and the minds "desire" to see patterns and relationships often overcomes so-called inconsistencies. I can't use it as a SS anymore, for some reason it just won't trigger itself on my Win2000 compaq PIII at work, no matter what combination of options I try...but I use the Desktop mode all the time. Thanks for these various viz items. I've been using Geiss software since I *bought* Winamp back when it was shareware. (When was that?!) Here's a thought for Drempels, etc: would it be possible to have random (or timed?) "pop-ups" of the time which then swirl/fade/merge with the background (much as titles pop-up with Winamp)? I am running Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 4100 and am having trouble downloading Milkdrop. I saw it on other's computers and was very impressed. When I click download, the installation directory opens with the request that I select the proper location for the file, but even after setting this option to Winamp3, the INSTALL button does not activate. I downloaded the latest versions of DirectX and Winamp in hopes that this would solve the problem -- unfortunately it did not. Do you have any idea what may be wrong??? Thanks for your help. | |

Greetings, I just wanted to say that I appreate all the hard work Ryan has done. I barely know how to make a winamp plugin but of all that I've seen Geiss takes the cake. I'm a C programmer and I have a great deal to learn about it. OpenGL looks tough, I've had quite a difficult time trying to learn it. All I know is a little about Direct-X which to me isn't really good enough but I don't know how to do it any other way. Hello there, I was just wandering and speculating... :) Nowadays everyone can have a personal internet radio throug winamp's shoutcast system. It's also common that people meet other via online chat. I've heard about online rpg-s, where you can have your 'avatar', virtual personality, and meet other (Everquest is somthing like this, I think). The biggest problem with this, is - surprise - money. Than I imagined a virtual coffe house, streeming music via shoutcast, giving the opportunity to everyone to see a virtual environment, have their avatar, chat with others, with the so nice visualisations tearing on the virtual walls. As many shoutcast stations are out there, there could be many virtual internet bars. If You want to listen to other kind of music, You just click the door to the next chat room. What do you think? If such a project is going to grow any time, I can offer all my free time, programming experience (mainly networking, some C++ and theoretical computer graphics) and resources to make it real. I know what your minimum system requirementes are, but what are your maximum system requirements? Basically, What do I need to make your plugins run as fast as possible? Suppose I am building a machine to do nothing but run Milkdrops, what would you suggest I buy? I may be crazy, but knowing that purchasing one brand part over another to help your plugins run faster is enough to sway my purchasing decisions. Would a GB of 133mhz SD ram be better than 512mb of 1066mhz RDRam? Would an ATI Video Card be Better than an NVidia card? Does having dual processors help? What about a larger L2 cache, a faster system bus, ect ect ect....? Maybe you can't tell me specifics, but you probably know if more processor helps more than more ram, or faster ram is better than more ram, or maybe there is a specific feature of a 3d accelerator that I should look for? I know this sounds like a lot to ask, but I'm sure I'm not the only one with this question. Thanks, Richard. | |

I love your plugins... the best I've found. I've been having some issues with monkey... I'm curious if you've run into this b4: Radeon 8500LE 128M Win2kPro Athlon XP 2000+ 512M (I'm unfamiliar with some basic graphics terms... so forgive me) When I run monkey the visual quality of the tunnel surfaces gradually deteriorates and always ends up (within at most 2-3 minutes) as a lagging wire-frame "structural" view of the graphics. When it hits that point the fps drop down to about 1 or 2 (!!). Not quite sure what to make of this, but am playing around with drivers to see if that might solve it. Any ideas/whatever would be appreciated. Keep up the *excellent* work. Jason | |

This is incredible because I just downloaded Monkey on Friday and that same night i was thinking, "i need to redownload those Nvidia Stereo display drivers that do the anaglyph (red/blue) separation so I can see this in 3-D!" I even have two pair of the red/blue flip-down clip-ons for my glasses that I bought from that rainbowsymphony.com a few months ago. I've enjoying watching Milkdrop with them in the 3-D mode. So I bookmarked the Graphics page in order to check for any new updates to the plugins. Then I went on to download those Nvidia drivers. Well they must not work with the newest detonator drivers or i screwed something up because after installing them, i couldnt see the stereo options in the display menu. So i figured oh well. I then come back to the website today to find out the functionality is being built in! Geiss you are my hero. Ive even made my wallpaper from a Photoshopped printscreen of Monkey after a simple texture customization. http://www.defbringer.com/light.jpg So far though, the link for the vis_monkey.dll seems broken. So I havent been able to try out the 3-D yet. :/ Ill be checking it often until it works. ;) | |

Mr. Geiss, houw about having an option to use your winamp plugins as a dynamic desktop. I would love it if my desktop moved like smoke.. There are already things that do that, but i think that smoke is a peaceful and calming background. They should use it to heal cancer and shit! It's so relaxing. first, i want to say that i think all what you do is really awesome! ive been a fan of your plugins since the first version of the first geiss winamp plugin came out. i consider you as a genious. your plugins are the reason i buy better video cards. i can spend an hour just sitting infront of the computer screen staring totally immersed in 'milkdrop', and i like to connect a big screen tv to the video out and go to sleep with 'smoke' on. its very tranquilizing. i hope to see some of your plugins used in dance clubs, projected on the ceiling or walls. it can contribute to the atmosphere. some suggestions if i may: i think it will be great if you could add more features to 'smoke'. its a great plugin with a great idea at its base. maybe you can add black holes that swallow the smoke lights in its radius. and maybe they can spit the smoke back out after a while. also, it will be great if you could add user interactivity. if the user strokes the screen across with the mouse pointer, it will be like swinging a finger across the water surface and it can cause waves and stuff. i got some more ideas but this message is becoming tooooooo longgggg. bye for now and thank you for your great work. you are a true genius! | |

If you're not already, you should be raking in the dough! Milkdrop could be showing in high class, ritzy, exclusive Art galleries that serve Champagne and caviar on normal weekdays. Any still photo taken from this magnificent work could be sold for millions! And you're GIVING IT AWAY!!! Not that I'm complaining, of course... My advice to Mr. Geiss is to find or invent a machine that can produce stills of Milkdrop on canvas. well, winamp 3 dont has native plugin support no more and never will. but there are wacs now.. back in the earlier alpha days a "classic visualation component" by justin was around... all it did was to emulate the plugin-structur so that old wa2 plugs would run. but then wa3 changed and this wac got incompatible.. its still more than possible to do such a thing, but the one in existance wont work on new wa3 build. however, i dont think ryan has missed the fact that theres a brand new winamp version at the door.. and because he works for nullsoft and the classic vis thingy is kind off a workaround i would b more than suprised to learn that there aint gonna be a winamp3 visual styles pack... wait for the final to come, we'll see | |

hey, i also wanted to state a small feedback about monkey the new version sure does rock... but it still hasnt enough variation in it to keep me look at the screen for longer than 15 minutes, hope new styles/features will come =) what i REALLY like about monkey is that it looks very plastic... you can see a real three dimensional cave youre flying thru... milkdrop also offers stunning visualz, but it is so overloaded you can never get the whole screen before it changed all over again, total gfx-overflow if you want... but still MD offers FAR more variations... i believe its this that makes it your most successfull plug-in (along with geiss). Just keep adding cool stuff to monkey... the basic idea of a morphing cave you fly thru is great! I bet a lot of game programmers are very jealous about your 3d-alghorythm-skills =) just imagine to explore these caves with some kind of manouverable vessel and shoot some enemies ;=) well, another post done, more content this time (at least i hope) but fear not, for you know, fear only leads to the dark side ;=) -Arv | |

I just want to point out my amusement that milkdrop even powers a whole company-concept =) however i wish i had a projector or could effort one, im dreaming of doin this since my early geiss-days... i even saw geiss once on a local "day of open door"(?) at the DASA (Daimler-Chrysler Aerospace) here in bremen/germany... so it really has the power to fascinate the masses. I have to say that drempels is the most awesome desktop ever, but when will it work on PC's with multiple monitors? Since I have set my overlay color to purple (so that drempels won't make my text change colors) I have to look at one screen with drempels on it and one bright purple one. Ryan, I've been following winamp plugins since you first released Geiss, the end all for nice visuals. I was always sorting through the internet for the best real time visuals i could find, and you never let me down. About the same time I purchased a 1000 lumen projector, you released milkdrop. Scary coincedence. So many friends complimented me on my 10 foot high wall of visual eye candy, which was powered by your program. As the years went by, and the features were added (text, jpeg, preset authoring) my show got even better. I started taking my projector and laptop with me to parties, and everyone's interest sparked. I've even started my own visuals company, The Digital Fire. After sitting in front of your plug-in for hours and being hypnotized as if it were a campfire, I felt the name was appropriate. On July 14th I have my first live show at a club, and it's going to be powered by Milkdrop. Complete with DJ handles floating across a screen full of pictures of the artists, these people will be floored. Consider me your ambassador to the states, i guess. Dear Mr Geiss I must commend your work in Geiss Screensaver. This is THE best sound to graphics software I have seen. I mix and produce electronic (dance) music and would love to use this at a performance (can you grant me permission, please?). You asked for suggestions so hear goes: (Not that the program isn`t perfect or anything), but, would it be possible to create a version where the user can determine some frames for themselves which will appear in (n) new screens - so that I can mix through my own images? I apologise if this is a silly suggestion but I have no understanding of how the program works so I do not know it`s limits. Thank you for making it free. Carlo Cola | |

just wanting to offer my congratulations and thanks for all the great work you've done. i finally got a decent graphics card - i was long a fan of geiss at 320x200 in winamp, but now i get to do DREMPELS DESKTOP as well! hooooooweeeee! DAMN! FYI, on my duron1.2/512DDR/matroxG550 system it drempels away at average 1%-2% of CPU capacity, occasionally peaking at 25% when it does something particularly complicated. or at least that's what windows says ;) so thanks again for all the eye candy you've given the world. when i show geiss/winamp to the uninitiated, they always say the same thing: "man, why don't they just have a bunch of projectors with this at every rave???" | |

y0 ryan! nice to see theres now a easy way to give some feedback (except for the forums, of course) I absolutely love geiss and milkdrop (to be honest geiss is still my favourite... sometimes i think as fast as 3d-acceleration is, it makes effects look more alike than just software), the other plugs are also quite good.. but those 2 beat it. I Hope they (at least MD) are still developed... or maybe you are just sitting on the next big thing, who knows... i'm still a little sad we get to hear so little from you.. just the readme.txt which comes with the releases along with some (mostly technical) forum posts... but well... you know where we hang out (lolirc), so its up to you... keep in mind we love you for what you are and do, not for what you say =)) so long -Arv | |

For over a year i've been using your plugin geiss on my computer with winamp. All that time i thought "this is the best plugin there is !!!". Till today I discovered Milkdrops. Whooohoohoa, this one's even better. It's like it feels the music more and reacts even faster to it than geiss. Plus the effects are a lot more fascinating. Probably you'll hear this every day, but... ...your visualisation plugins are so great! I've used geiss for years now. No other plugin reaches it's perfection by far till now. Geiss plugin for winamp is the closest most of up will ever get to a religious experience. I'm giving my age away here, but if this thing (and PCs, and winamp) had been around in the 70s, my life would be *very* different. What is the verbification of "Geiss"?? Geissing?? Geissify? Geissology? Is this an appropriate label for those under the influence of Geiss? What is the correct name for the drool on my shirt after 30 minutes of Geiss? Geisstream? Exactly what kind of computing horsepower do I need to get it to run 24+ FPS AT 1280x1024x16, or better? A high-res Geiss test should be added to all benchmark suites. All elected officials should be required to chill with Geiss for 2 hrs per day. The pope needs to be Geissed. I'd like to order a round of Geiss for everyone on the western spiral arm of the Milky Way. | |

Hello, Just thought this might be interesting. Just playing around with my computer, I like active desktops and like to hide the Icons. Drempels does not work if you have your desktop Web active by showing wen contents. Playing around with my screen capture in Paint Shop Pro 7, I took a partial screen capture of the Drempels desktop and then re=adjusted the screen size to 800 x 600 and made it my desktop only to find I couldn't use it unless I made My dektop active(Show web content). Now with my screen capture it is still operating the ray tracing program even with the web content showing and I can hide the desktop Icons. Thought this might be of interest to someone. I've been using your programs since Geiss, and I can't stand to look at other plug-ins. I've tried all sorts of supposed 'Geiss' killers and the only ones I've found are ones you've written yourself. Milkdrop produces some of the most amazing visuals I've ever seen, although some of it's hard zooms and jerks seem out of place when I listen to my more ambient stuff.. And for that, I have Smoke. It didn't even end there.. My desktop wallpaper had for the longest time been an empty black void as I couldn't find anything that suited it.. And along came Drempels. It was almost like I was -waiting- for it to arrive. I suppose I have nothing else to say but thank you. You've given your time, your brilliant creativity and artistic expression to the world for free. Keep up the good work, and know, even if your work with these toys come to an end, at least publically, you've earned a home on my computer and future ones as long as there's a place to find the install files (that is, if I lose backups) as I doubt I'll ever find replacements that'd match your style. | |

i just downloaded the new version of smoke.. 1.0 worked good, 1.01 too.. now when i tried 1.02 it made the the screen go black, but the music to continue and i couldnt get back to windows (2000), so i restarted. runned it again, and then it worked. but the menu system seemed to work bad. the buttons didnt always do effect, and sometimes when i pressed t, then the help menu did come up, or the fps didnt want to be alone, it always wanted to be with the menu system. | |

Using computer software, preferably audiovisual, as yours is, in combination with winamp, for the purpose of altering one's mind is a great field I feel should be explored, and I'm greatful for what you're doing. However. I've gotten more and more interested in free (as in referring to freedom) software (http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html) and I've started using a completely free Debian (http://www.debian.org) GNU/Linux (http://www.gnu.org -- http://www.linux.com &c.) system, and I'm thinking of switching to using this on all my computers, as a matter of preserving the liberties and freedoms of computer users and programmers. Anyway, have you ever considered releasing your code under the GNU GPL (http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html). Hey, I have been a big fan of all your works, and I believe that my favorite visualization for Winamp, is Milkdrop, and my favorite overall is Drempels. I believe that Geiss is good, and I only wish that Milkdrop could have the constant song title popus, rather than just at the beginning for a period of seconds. I truly understand your interest and passion in computer generated images. I know what it feels like when a piece of code generates a new interesting pattern, or a strange-looking fractal... I would like to thank you for your effort, and for having written the best winamp plugins in years to come. Ryan, I am totally blown away by your work. I personally cannot get enough of Drempels... Neither can my 14 year old neice who I just turned on to it... sometimes I just stare at my monitor... I am a muscian and artist who has recently returned to college to study computer engineering. Your programs inspire me! There is clearly a way to remain creative in the Techno-world. I noticed in Drempels readme that it should not be slowing down my CPU... can you please reply with a reassuring word if I am indeed correct? I noticed in my Windows 2K Pro \"Task Manager\" that Drempels appears to be fairly processor taxing. I am inclined to belive that Task Manager is being duped by Dremels\' \"in between\" (or however you described it) functioning. Can you help me out on this one? I never want to shut it down!! You might want to add a call to stripslashes() on your text data before saving it in your guestbook. PHP setup defaults with \"magicquotes\" turned on, which essentially means that it will addslashes() any form data coming in through GET or POST. On my sites I\'d love to just turn it off, but there is so much legacy code compensating for it already that I\'m trapped :) Actually.. since I\'m bounds checking your forms anyway, lemme try a thing or three. Bold text, Unreasonably large text, A Javascript alert --><--, and some funny characters: ! AT #$%^&*()_+-={}[]\\|;\":\'> Let\'s see what this looks like. | |

Dude! Geiss and Milkdrop are wickedly cool. Nobody has any right obtaining such framerate on decade-old workstations :) Stop by http://fractalshop.sourceforge.net/ for a look at my flagship Win32 app, that I\'ve been slowly growing since \'99. It\'s an IFS Fractal Generator that requires no understanding of math to operate, and utilizes a snazzy 32 bit coloring algorythm. It can keep up pace with Fractint\'s IFS plugin, but I\'m no demo programmer so it\'s all written in C with lots of floating point math. I\'m certain you could glance at my code, chuckle politely, and write an asm/direct draw app that could fluidly render at 30 frames per second fractals it takes my engine 5 minutes to draw, but I could PHP you into oblivion, so let\'s call a draw :) - - Jesse Thompson bend.com | |
